George A. Andrews rescued Donna L. Short from assault, Walnut Creek, California, December 2, 1986. Mrs. Short, 41, was being assaulted in her office by a woman armed with a knife. Witnessing the attack, Andrews, 58, maintenance man, ran into the office and distracted the assailant, allowing Mrs. Short to break the assailant’s grip and flee. In an ensuing struggle, Andrews disarmed the assailant, subdued her, and held her for police. Andrews was bitten by the assailant and received a minor stab wound in one arm. He required hospital treatment and recovered.
