Gene John Miller rescued Victor T. Scott, IV while he was in a runaway automobile, Mount Holly, New Jersey, December 28, 1974. When he saw Victor, 2, in a runaway two-door automobile moving onto a busy highway, Miller, 18, college student, overtook the vehicle but was unable to open the door. When the automobile reached the highway’s median strip, Miller lost his hold and fell to the ground. He again overtook the vehicle as it crossed the other section of the highway and jumped the curb. Miller succeeded in opening the door of the automobile as it continued on its runaway course. He used a parallel-bar technique to put himself into the front seat, where he applied the brake and stopped the automobile a few feet from the rear of a motel.
