Fritz Grob, 37, student, saved Jean MacKinnon, 18, from drowning, Cambridge, Massachusetts, March 12, 1933. Miss MacKinnon, who was clothed, fell from a bridge into the Charles River, where the water was 15 feet deep. The water was very cold. Miss MacKinnon swam weakly to a point 125 feet from the bank and was then noticed by Grob. Grob, who was almost fully clothed, waded and then swam 75 feet to her and, supporting her, swam toward the bank. He became weak from the cold water, drifted somewhat with the current, and was doubtful whether he would reach the bank. With great exertion he finally reached wadable water and carried Miss MacKinnon to the bank. 32879-2744
