Freddie M. Hill, Jr., saved Johnnie Bryant, Jr., from drowning, Albany, Georgia, June 28, 1983. Johnnie, 14, was swimming with his Boy Scout troop at the confluence of the Flint River and Kinchafoonee Creek when the current in the creek suddenly increased. Unable to swim against it, Johnnie yelled for help. Freddie, 14, high school student, dived into the creek and swam 200 feet to Johnnie, who was being carried away by the river current. He obtained a lifesaving hold on Johnnie and swam downstream with him until they were able to anchor themselves to a large rock near the river bank. After reaching the bank himself, Freddie pulled Johnnie in. 60187-7017
