Fred R. Johnson, 49, carpenter, died attempting to save Dorothy V. Bold, 15, from drowning, Almonesson, New Jersey, July 6, 1918. Dorothy, while wading in Lake Almonesson, stepped into water 10 feet deep, 50 feet from shore, and could not swim. After another man had failed in an attempt to rescue her, Johnson swam about 25 feet to her and grasped her shoulder. She then grasped his neck with both hands, and after a short struggle they sank and were drowned. 19024-1518
