Frank S. Sharp, 35, lineman, rescued Walter B. Demmy, 30, lineman, from a fatal fall, Ephrata, Pennsylvania, May 5, 1928. Demmy, who weighed 175 pounds and wore spurs and a belt holding heavy tools, was shocked and fell head first from a point on a pole 24 feet above a paved street. Sharp, who was smaller than Demmy, stepped under him, braced himself, and caught him around the neck and shoulders. Sharp was forced to his knees from the weight of Demmy, whose course was changed so that he struck the street in a sitting position. Demmy sustained serious injuries but recovered. Sharp suffered only slight bruises.
