Forest W. W. Loyd, 10, schoolboy, died attempting to save Leslie W. Richardson, 9, from drowning, Phillipsburg, Kansas, December 11, 1926. While playing on the ice on a lake, Leslie broke through into water six feet deep 25 feet from the bank. Forest, who was fully clothed, walked a few feet on thin ice to a point two to three feet from the hole and extended his hand to Leslie. As Leslie took hold of Forest’s hand, the ice broke under Forest, and both were submerged. Forest rose, swam a little, and tried unsuccessfully to get hold of the ice at the edge of the hole. Both were drowned. 26965-2269
