Floyd L. Anderson saved an indeterminate number of persons from a possible explosion, Jacksonville, Illinois, January 23, 1986. An explosion and fire occurred at a propane gas company’s distribution facility, setting fire to the rear of a fully loaded, 2,500-gallon tanker truck. A jet of flames from the truck struck an 8,000-gallon storage tank nearly full of propane, threatening to cause the tank to explode. Anderson, 55, gas company manager, ran from his nearby office and drove the burning truck into a cornfield away from the facility, thereby preventing an explosion of the storage tank.
