Floyd H. Matlack, 46, oil-well driller, rescued Charles J. Branham, 32, oil-well motorman, from a fatal fall, Ringwood, Oklahoma, July 15, 1950. Branham while ascending a derrick fell from an open elevator 70 feet above the floor and struck a brace of the derrick in descent. Matlack on the floor ran eight feet to inside the derrick and held out his arms to catch him. Branham, losing consciousness momentarily, struck Matlack’s arms; and both men fell to the floor. Branham sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized four months. Matlack suffered a strained back and neck and contusions but recovered. 42042-3694
