Floyd A. Jones, 38, laborer, died helping to save Earl S. Stamper, 45, laborer, from suffocation, Cincinnati, Ohio, October 28, 1927. Stamper and another man entered a sewer manhole, 21 feet deep, to work, and Stamper was quickly overcome by gas. His companion climbed up a ladder at the side of the manhole and got out. Although the odor of gas was strong at the top of the manhole, Jones descended into the manhole without taking precaution. Another man followed him, and together they raised Stamper and tied a rope that had been lowered to them around him. Stamper was drawn out and revived. Jones and the other man were overcome and lost their lives.
