Flavian E. Myers, Jr., saved Timothy J. Wagner from drowning, Washington, Indiana, December 20, 1947. Timothy, 9, broke through ice on a pond into water 12 feet deep 30 feet from the bank. Flavian, 12, schoolboy, ran to a point two feet from the hole, which was three feet in diameter, and kneeling on the ice took hold of Timothy. The ice broke under Flavian, and he fell into the water and was briefly submerged. Removing his boats and gloves, he rose in front of Timothy, who threw his arms around Flavian’s neck. Flavian broke the hold and brought Timothy to the edge of the ice. After breaking off more ice, Flavian rolled himself onto it and lying supine aided Timothy in rolling out also, and they then ran to the bank. They were chilled but suffered no other ill effects. 41262-3537
