Finley Kicklighter, 27, laborer, saved Thomas A. Schneider, 7, from being killed by a train, St. Petersburg, Florida, February 8, 1954. Thomas walked onto a track 12 feet from a railroad crossing and stood two feet outside one rail as a passenger train approached at a speed of 45 m.p.h. Thomas turned to face the train and became tensed with fright, clasping his hands over his ears. Kicklighter, who was working at a nearby sewer excavation, ran 15 feet to Thomas and took hold of him while the train was on the crossing. Lifting Thomas, Kicklighter pivoted from the track with him, barely clearing the path of the train, which passed by at an unreduced speed. 43305-3987
