Ernest Mableson, 32, laborer, died attempting to save Charles W. Crichton, 14, school-boy, from drowning, Etonia, Ontario, May 24, 1938. Mableson and Crichton fished from a rowboat in Livey Lake. Crichton next was observed threshing in water eight feet deep 12 feet from the boat. Mableson, who was heavily clothed, dived and swam to Crichton, who threw his arms around Mableson’s neck. They drifted a few feet close together. Whether Mableson then supported Crichton could not be seen by the sole eye-witness, who was at a distance. A short time later Crichton sank and was drowned. Mableson then swam toward the boat, which was drifting in a strong wind, but did not reach it and was drowned.
