Emanuel Samuel Reeves died after helping to save Titus L. Peebles from drowning, Augusta, Georgia, June 12, 1993. Struggling in the water, Titus, 10, called for help from the deep end of a swimming pool. Reeves, 22, restaurant worker, who was nearby, jumped into the pool and pushed Titus toward the side, where he was aided from the pool. Reeves then encountered difficulty staying at the surface of the water; he submerged and resurfaced repeatedly, then disappeared from view. He was pulled from the pool several minutes later but could not be revived.
