Elmer R. Martins, 16, delivery boy, died saving Aloysius H. Ruppelt, 11, from drowning, Cleveland, Ohio, June 6, 1911. Elmer swam to the assistance of Aloysius, who, unable to swim, had fallen from a raft into water eight feet deep in Kellog’s Pond. As Elmer extended his hand, Aloysius grasped it, climbed upon Elmer’s back, and closed his hands around Elmer’s neck. Elmer made some progress toward the bank but could not free himself. Another boy extended his hand to Aloysius, who grasped it and released his hold upon Elmer. Elmer then sank and did not reappear. Aloysius was pulled to the bank by the other boy. 6867-561
