Edwin T. Moser saved Mary R. Moeller and Edith A. VandenBosch from drowning, Geneva, Indiana, July 19, 1931. While Mrs. VandenBosch, 44, was wading beside Miss Moeller, 20, and was supporting her as she tried to swim in a pond, Mrs. VandenBosch stepped into water eight feet deep in a hole. Both were briefly submerged. Moser, 32, woodcraftsman, who was swimming in the pond, swam 45 feet to wadable water, waded close to the hole, and then swam 15 feet to Miss Moeller. He swam and towed her four feet toward the bank and then was submerged. Holding her, he walked on the bottom four feet to the edge of the hole, got a foothold, and got his head and shoulders above the surface. One or two women in wadable water helped him and Miss Moeller out. Moser then swam 12 feet through the deep water to Mrs. VandenBosch, who was just beneath the surface. He towed her as he swam a few feet toward the bank but then was submerged by her weight. Dragging her, he walked on the bottom for six feet to the edge of the hole, and one of the women helped him out of it. He and the woman pulled Mrs. VandenBosch out of the deep water, and others helped to take her to the bank. Mrs. VandenBosch was semiconscious and was revived. 33043-2789
