Edward J. Kazor, Jr., saved Louise Norman from drowning, Detroit, Michigan, August 4, 1972. Mrs. Norman, 52, fell into the Detroit River and, inert, floated downstream 100 feet from the bank. Noting that other persons on the bank were not preparing to give aid, Kazor, 28, printer, undressed to his underwear and removed a leg brace without which he could not walk. He pushed off from the bank, swam to Mrs. Norman, and then began towing her diagonally across the strong current. Able to use only one leg for swimming, he tired rapidly; and he called for assistance. Another man waded and swam about 20 feet to Kazor, who was very fatigued by the time they got Mrs. Norman to the bank. The other man administered artificial respiration to Mrs. Norman, who recovered. 52836-5981
