Edmond H. Haugen, 23, student, assisted in an attempt to save Esther M. Wepking and Arthur A. Harwood, both 23, from drowning, Madison, Wisconsin, April 24, 1921. (See case of MARGARET BRENNECKE.) Haugen went to the rescue with Miss Brennecke. When the raft capsized, Haugen, who did not have a life preserver, supported Miss Wepking on his back and clung to the raft, but he became dazed and was submerged for a time until only his hand was visible at the surface. Miss Wepking then lost her hold and sank. Haugen held to the raft until the motorboat arrived. 21360-1888
