Durward L. Lewis, 64, of Washington Township in Montgomery County, Ohio, died on Oct. 19, 2010, at Hospice of Dayton. Lewis was born on Feb. 19, 1946, in Morrow, Ohio, to Russell and Geneva Lewis.
Lewis graduated from Little Miami High School in Morrow, attended Ohio University in Athens, and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He was a humble recipient of the Carnegie Medal for heroism.
Lewis earned his pilot’s license at age 16, was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and had flown corporate airplanes. He organized air shows and flew acrobatic routines with his brother, Ronald Lewis. He was the manager of the Springfield Airport in Springfield, Ohio, and an accomplished and respected flight instructor. Lewis also was a founder and partner of Parker-Lewis Art & Frame in Dayton, Ohio.
