Donald W. Harris rescued Arthur R. Magnuson from burning, Thunder Bay, Ontario, July 22, 1971. At night Magnuson, 59, tap man, was preparing food in the kitchen of his one-story home when fire broke out, burning him and causing him to fall unconscious to the floor. The spreading flames were discovered by Magnuson’s wife, who escaped through a window. Harris, 35, service station operator, was attracted and, learning that Magnuson was inside, entered the burning dwelling. Keeping beneath the smoke, which was so dense he could not see the flames, Harris crawled to the kitchen. Intense heat from the spreading fire caused windows to break as Harris, putting Magnuson with him, crawled back to the door and emerged from the dwelling. Magnuson recovered after hospitalization for his burns.
