Donald Earl Kidder died attempting to save Dale A. Hanson from drowning, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, November 4, 1984. Hanson, 49, was duck hunting on Lake Koshkonong with his son when their boat capsized, throwing them into the frigid water about a half-mile from shore. They shouted for help. Kidder, 20, tree surgeon, trapping on a small pond nearby, apparently heard their cries; he portaged his small boat to the lake, then, despite the rough water, took it out on the lake and found Hanson, who was separated from his son. With help from another man who had rowed out, Kidder was able to get Hanson into his boat, and he began to go back toward shore as the other man looked for Hanson’s son. En route, Kidder’s boat capsized, and he and Hanson were last seen clinging to the overturned craft. Both men drowned. 60333-7019
