Dominik Paille saved Brenda L. and Natalie Guimond from burning, Richibucto, New Brunswick, February 16, 1989. Mrs. Guimond, 24, and her daughter, Natalie, 3, were unable to escape their second-floor apartment after fire broke out in the basement of the two-story building and filled its stairway with dense smoke. Paille, 18, high school student, who was alerted to the fire from nearby, entered the building twice but each time was repulsed by the smoke. He then held a scarf to his face, entered the building a third time, and ascended the stairs to the second floor. Giving the scarf to Mrs. Guimond, Paille guided and carried her and Natalie down the stairs and outside to safety.
