Deborah Jean MacLean saved Harold J. Durant from being shot, Summerside, Prince Edward Island, January 25, 1978. An armed assailant took Mrs. MacLean, 22, office clerk, as a hostage in an office in a department store and, sitting in a chair behind that in which Mrs. MacLean was seated, held a loaded shotgun to her head. When three policemen, led by Durant, 36, charged the assailant, Mrs. MacLean grabbed the barrel of the gun, moved to a position behind the assailant and, as he pointed the weapon at Durant, forced the barrel downward. Durant and the other policemen overpowered the assailant without the gun being fired.
