David Nesbit Hamilton died attempting to save Glen H. Elrick, 21, farmer, from drowning, Campbells Mills, Pennsylvania, May 30, 1921. Elrick’s boat was caught in a swift current while Elrick was rowing on Black Lick Creek and was carried over a dam. He was thrown out of the boat, and he bobbed up and down helplessly under the waterfall about 75 feet from the bank. Hamilton, 19, boat tender, dived from the bank and swam 30 feet to the boat, which was drifting in swirling water about 25 feet from the dam. He climbed into the boat and rowed against the current to within a few feet of the dam. The bow of the boat was drawn under the falling water, and Hamilton dived from the stern. The force of the water hurled the boat toward him, and it struck his head. He sank and was drowned, as was Elrick. 21426-1730
