David E. Kilgore rescued Lelia B. Daugherty from assault, Houston, Texas, June 23, 1985. Mrs. Daugherty, 69, was about to leave her car in a supermarket parking lot when a man approached and, wielding a razor blade, began to attack her. As she resisted the assailant, he cut her deeply on both arms. Kilgore, 31, refinery foreman, saw the attack. He ran to the assailant and pulled him from Mrs. Daugherty, but the assailant lunged at Kilgore and cut him deeply across the neck. When the man lunged at him a second time, Kilgore threw him to the pavement. The assailant fled. Both Kilgore and Mrs. Daugherty were hospitalized for six days for treatment of their wounds, from which they recovered. 60611-6993
