Corby Lee Enochs, Sr., saved Kelly A. Fletcher from drowning, Vandalia, Ohio, August 1, 1979. In a rainstorm, Kelly, 11, took refuge in a culvert carrying Poplar Creek under a highway. As the water rose, Kelly, who could not swim, was forced to cling to the side of the culvert. Police threw her a rope, but she lost her hold and was swept away by the swift current in the flooded creek. Enochs, 32, sales and service technician, jumped into the deep water, reached Kelly, and supported her as they were carried downstream. Enochs managed to stop their movement by grasping a limb of an overhanging tree at the bank. A man reached out from the bank and took Kelly from Enochs, who then climbed out of the water. 57224-6535
