Clyde R. Meredith saved Edith McClellan from being run over by a train, Fredericktown, Pennsylvania, August 21, 1914. Miss McClellan, 28, fell between the rails of a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of 16 m.p.h. The train was within 90 feet of her when she fell. Meredith, 43, undertaker, who was on the station platform close to her, sprang between the rails, stooped, grasped her with both hands, swung her upward in front of him, and stepped off the track with her. The locomotive passed him, the bumper timber clearing his shoulder by less than a foot. 13573-1079
