Clint Edward Kemp helped to rescue Susan M. Elledge from burning, Petaluma, California, July 13, 1985. Following a highway accident, Mrs. Elledge, 32, was trapped beneath the dash of a small pickup truck that was covered with debris, some of which was burning. While clearing the debris from the pickup, to reach its driver, Kemp, 41, training supervisor, and another man discovered Mrs. Elledge. In rapidly increasing flames and heat, which caused a service revolver in the glove compartment to fire, Kemp and the other man reached through the passenger window and pulled Mrs. Elledge, her hair aflame, from the pickup. The cab was shortly engulfed by flames. Mrs. Elledge was treated for second-degree burns, and she recovered.
