Clifford J. Manuel, 60, farmer, rescued William D. Miller, 29, salesman, from burning, Fannett, Texas, June 14, 1965. When a tire blew out on the bakery truck Miller was driving, the vehicle veered into a ditch and tipped over onto its right side against a utility pole. Miller was injured and lay across the truck’s only door, which then was against the ground. Fire broke out in the engine, and the flames began to spread. Manuel ran to the truck, where the section of the windshield against the ground was largely broken out. Flames then burned on the underside of the vehicle near the fuel tank, which contained about 27 gallons of gasoline, and those on the upper side had ignited the utility pole, which supported high voltage electric lines. Flames also burned inside the truck opposite Miller, whose clothing was caught.
