Claude A. Jones died attempting to save Ethel C. and J. Lloyd Bechtel from drowning, Cory, Indiana, August 3, 1913. Lloyd, 7, got into water over his depth while playing in the Eel River, and Mrs. Bechtel, 30, got into deep water trying to save him. Jones, 19, glass worker, who was a good swimmer, jumped from a boat 10 feet from Mrs. Bechtel and trod water while supporting her and Lloyd for about a minute. Then the three went beneath the surface. Another man saved Lloyd and his mother, but Jones was drowned. 13204-1049
