Clara Hogstad, 20, stenographer, attempted to save Joseph Schultz, 70, boatkeeper, from being run over by a train, Lafayette, Pennsylvania, September 23, 1910. Miss Hogstad, in a weakened condition from a recent operation, ran 50 feet to Schultz, who stood motionless a few inches outside the track on which the train was approaching at a speed of 40 m.p.h. Just as she caught his sleeve and attempted to pull him off the track, the train struck Schultz, knocking him against Miss Hogstad. She was hurled 15 feet and badly bruised.
