Charles W. Hammond, 44, laborer, died attempting to save Archibald C. Reynolds, 17, laborer, from drowning, Sidney, Maine, April 1, 1909. While going toward Archibald, who was in a hole in the ice on the Kennebec River 80 feet from the bank where the water was 25 feet deep, Hammond, who could not swim, broke through and was drowned.
