Charles P. Haseltine attempted to rescue Denis M. Donahue during a shooting incident, Ann Arbor, Michigan, August 15, 1977. As Denis, 14, was delivering newspapers, a youth atop a nearby building shot him twice with a high-powered rifle. Haseltine, 63, physician, ran to Denis, who had collapsed onto the ground. The third bullet struck Haseltine, and he also fell to the ground. A fourth shot went wild. Police arrived and took the assailant into custody. Injuries to Denis resulted in paralysis of his lower body, while Haseltine’s injury caused impaired use of one arm. 55968-6328
