Charles L. Haynes, 15, schoolboy, saved Harold E. Smith, 13, from drowning, Neosho Rapids, Kansas, August 25, 1906. Charles, somewhat fatigued by previous exertions, swam into the current of the Cottonwood River and succeeded in overcoming Harold’s struggles, only after rendering him unconscious by a blow on the neck, and then got him to shore.
