Charles Kenneth Ludwig saved Donald D. Gardipee and helped to save Donald N. Gardipee from drowning, Mukwonago, Wisconsin, July 13, 1973. When Donald, 11, waded into the Mukwonago River to free his fishing line, he was carried away from the bank by the current. His father, Gardipee, 43, swam to his son but got into difficulty in the deep water. Charles, 12, entered the water fully clothed and swam to Donald and his father, who were 20 feet from the nearest bank. When Charles took hold of them, all three persons went under briefly. Charles then towed Donald to the bank while a truckdriver went to the aid of the father. Although tired because of his heavy shoes, Charles returned to the father and aided the truckdriver in taking him to the bank. 53954-6137
