Charles J. Krumbach died attempting to save Elizabeth Mahon from drowning, Dubuque, Iowa, August 10, 1917. A motorboat occupied by Krumbach, 24, chauffeur; Miss Mahon, 33, and four others struck a wing-dam in the Mississippi River near midstream, and Miss Mahon and another woman fell overboard. It was dark. One woman was pulled into the boat, and Krumbach, removing his coat, dived for Miss Mahon. Neither was again seen alive. Both drowned. 18482-1426
