Charles F. P. McCrory, 19, clerk, died attempting to save John A. Altenbaugh, Jr., 20, clerk, from drowning, Sandy Creek, Pennsylvania, August 4, 1909. McCrory attempted to swim ashore with Altenbaugh when the latter became panic stricken, in the Allegheny River 22 feet from shore, but Altenbaugh broke loose and sank. McCrory, after diving for him several times, was too exhausted to reach shore and was drowned. 4392-331
