Charles Edward Johnson died attempting to save Robert L. Bradley from drowning, Brooklyn, Alabama, June 13, 1973. When he tried to swim across a creek, Robert, 16 got into trouble and called for help. Johnson, 19, factory worker, who had just swum across the creek, re-entered it and swam 85 feet to Robert, who was struggling to stay afloat in deep water. As soon as Johnson took hold of Robert, they went under. Both drowned.
