Charles E. Murray died attempting to save Michael J. Reagan from suffocation, Leominster, Massachusetts, October 6, 1924. Reagan, 39, laborer, entered a sewer manhole, 9.5 feet deep, and was quickly overcome by carbon monoxide gas. Murray, 65, laborer, having no rope nor any means of protection, descended brick steps on the sides of the manhole to the bottom, raised Reagan almost to his feet, and then was overcome by the gas. Reagan was soon taken out of the manhole, and Murray was taken out about 20 minutes after he entered, but both were dead. 24703-2018
