Charles D. Lewis attempted to save Milburn J. Harris from drowning, Conowingo, Maryland, February 15, 1975. Harris, 40, broke through the ice on a pond; and each time he tried to climb out, the ice broke off. Lewis, 45, assembler, went toward the hole and then crawled to near it. He took hold of Harris; but when he tried to pull him out of the water, the ice gave way. Both Lewis and Harris then held to the edge of the hole in deep water. First Harris and later Lewis was removed by persons using rescue aids. 54515-6161
