Charles C. Michener, 27, painter, died attempting to save Dorothy M. Hunter, 13, from drowning, Grand Forks, British Columbia, August 14, 1919. Dorothy stepped into deep water while wading in the Kettle River. Michener, who was fully dressed and had been affected by gas in war, ran 340 feet to the bank and swam about 65 feet to the point where Dorothy had disappeared. Here he went under the surface and did not reappear. Neither Michener nor Dorothy could be revived after they were taken from the water. 20238-1623
