Charles A. Hansen assisted in an attempt to save Frank Allen Tefft from drowning, Providence, Rhode Island, February 10, 1924. (See case of FRANK ALLEN TEFFT.) Hansen, 19, carpenter’s apprentice, and another man skated 1,000 feet to near the hole where Frank, 14, schoolboy, had broken in. Hansen lay flat on the ice, and his companion lay behind him and held to his skates. Hansen was reaching to grasp Frank’s hand when the ice broke under both men, and they dropped into the water. Hansen’s companion sank and was drowned, but Hansen was rescued by another skater, after he had maintained himself at the surface with difficulty. 25093-1984
