Bentley H. Gallman saved Gustav A. Grindel from suffocation, North Boston, New York, August 10, 1921. While cleaning up debris at the bottom of a well, 24 feet deep, following a dynamite blast, Grindel, 39, farmer, was overcome by gas. With only Grindel’s wife present, Gallman, 19, farmer, slid down a rope to the bottom of the well, and after unhooking a bucket which was at the end of the rope, he fastened the rope around Grindel. Gallman then climbed the rope. He became dizzy and weak as he neared the top and reached the surface with great effort. Grindel was then pulled up and was revived. 21700-1761
