Arvle J. Henderson rescued B. C. Moore from a fatal fall, Buckner, Arkansas, January 8, 1958. While being lowered on a hoist from which he had been working at an oil well, Moore, 61, oil-well derrickman, lost his balance and from a height of 35 feet fell toward a sucker rod which rose from inside the well pipe, to four and a half feet above the concrete floor. Instead of running to safety, Henderson, 35, oil field worker, who was standing on the floor beneath the hoist, moved to near the well pipe and stretched out his arms to catch Moore. The latter, his body in an almost horizontal position, fell heavily onto the shoulder and arm of Henderson. The impact carried both men backward on the oil-covered floor, and they tumbled over a horizontal connecting pipe onto the concrete with Moore on top of Henderson. Moore suffered fractures of both legs and both feet. He was hospitalized for two months and treated for an additional eight months. The nerves and muscles of Henderson’s shoulder and arm were injured.
