Arthur Ray Holt rescued Frank E. Bryne, Jr., from an enraged bull, High Shoals, North Carolina, April 9, 1975. In a dairy-farm pasture, a bull weighing about 1,600 pounds attacked Bryne, 35, and knocked him to the ground. Holt., 42, textile machine operator, entered the pasture and moved to a position directly in front of the bull as it was mauling Bryne. With a heavy fence post, Holt forcibly struck the bull on the head and drove it away from Bryne, who recovered after being hospitalized for injuries he had sustained.
