Arthur LaFayette Kimsey, 57, merchant, saved Alonzo Gibson, 39, well digger, from suffocation, Mount Airy, Georgia, October 13, 1919. Gibson was overcome by gas in a well 46 feet deep. At different times two men started to his rescue, but both felt the gas affecting them and refused to descend to him. Kimsey was then lowered in a bucket to Gibson. He raised Gibson, put a rope around him, and holding to the well rope and supporting Gibson, was drawn to the top. Kimsey was faint and was breathing heavily. Gibson regained consciousness about four hours later. 19922-1635
