Agnes Imogene Martin, 12, schoolgirl, died saving Mary Ann Criswell, 9, from drowning, Moundsville, West Virginia, June 10, 1928. Mary Ann fell into water 13 feet deep in Upper Grave Creek. She was submerged and rose five feet from the bank. Imogene jumped from the bank into the water, took hold of Mary Ann’s hand, and supported her until a small girl pushed a branch to them. Mary Ann took hold of the branch and was drawn to the bank, but before the branch could be swung back to Imogene, she sank and was drowned. 28310-2318
